Scripture: Joshua 6

What do you do when God gives you a promise, but the path forward doesn’t make sense? In Joshua 6, God calls His people to march around the walls of Jericho, trusting His instructions even when they couldn’t see how the victory would come. Sometimes faith means taking the next step when the breakthrough hasn’t happened yet. It means trusting God’s Word, obeying His voice, and believing that He is at work even when nothing seems to be changing. The walls may look impossible, but no obstacle is greater than our God.

In today’s message, we’re reminded that following Jesus is about trusting Him one step at a time. When the waiting gets hard, the obstacles seem too big, and the answers don’t come as quickly as we hoped, we’re called to keep walking in faith. God is faithful, His promises are true, and our job is to trust Him with the outcome. Don’t give up. Don’t lose heart. Keep praying, keep obeying, and keep moving forward. The same God who led Joshua and the Israelites is still at work today.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What stuck out in today’s message? What did you find challenging and encouraging? Did you learn anything new?
  2. Share a time you kept doing the right thing but saw no progress in the beginning stages. How did you feel in the moment?
  3. Read Joshua 6:1-27. Who does Joshua interact with just before this passage (5:13-15)? How does this scene shape the way we read the battle that follows?
  4. Compare God’s instructions in 6:2–5 with how Joshua passes them on in 6:6–10. What details stand out?
  5. According to the passage, why is everything in Jericho “devoted to the LORD” (6:17–19)? How does this part of the story make you feel, or what questions does it raise for you?
  6. Both Rahab and the rest of Jericho heard the same stories about God, but their responses were different. How did their responses differ and how do we see that in this chapter? What do the outcomes reveal about God’s character?
  7. Joshua knew in advance how the battle would end, but we often do not. How does knowing the whole story of Scripture help you continue moving forward when your own situation remains unresolved?
  8. Pastor Jacob discussed the difference between enduring through our own effort (moralism) and trusting God through true obedience. In what situations do you find yourself relying on your own effort instead of trusting God?
  9. Following God can often appear foolish to the world around us. Is there a relationship or situation where you sense God calling you to follow His direction rather than the world’s? What might be your next step in following Him this week?
