In this sermon, Pastor Mark Deering explores what it truly means to be a disciple and “walk in the way” of Jesus according to 1 John 2:1–6. Discipleship requires trusting in Jesus’ atoning work on the cross, which covers, cleanses, and conquers sin, continually becoming more like Jesus by allowing his light to expose sin and bring confession and transformation, and not just knowing about Jesus, but actually doing what he did by living out his teachings through our actions. We must authentically walk in Jesus’ way by trusting him, being vulnerable to change, and living out his teachings in community—going beyond just motions to allow Christ to transform every area of our lives.
